Pressure Stuff

I don't know who can't get high blood pressure.

Hypertension may run in families. It may have inheritable factors.

Kidney infection may lead to high blood pressure. Emotional stress may trigger hypertension.

Physical activity helps. Blood pressure is significantly lower in men who are physically active men then in me who are sedentary. However, those who work more than 40 hours a week tend to have higher blood pressure.

It doesn't take much pressure to do one damage. An average pressure of 142/85 may give a 25 year old a death rate 150% above the average for his age.

bp

I think that I have brought my blood pressure down by increasing my daily metoprolol from 100 mg to 200 mg and dropping the tecturnaHCT and valsazrtan.

Still have headaches, but it is great to see pressure going down.

Now, of I can get rid of diarrhea and joint pain, I'llbe a happy man.

Another Breathing Exercise

Breathing exercises are often associated with meditation or relaxation. They may help in lowering blood pressure. I might feel better if I'd complete a couple of breathing exercise each. I do attend a bit more to my breathing than I once did and seem to be better for doing so.

Here is a exercise I've tried, but not done regularly. Allow me to address it to you.
a) lie on your back, knees up, feet flat on floor. Support head and shoulders on a pillow.
b) Relax. Breathe slowly and deeply through the nose, allowing the air to fill the lower part of your lungs. In doing so push abdomen downward and upward so that it appears to rise above the level of your chest. See that the air is allowed to flow to the bottom of your lungs.
c) Once the lower portion of your lungs is filled with air, hold the position for a few seconds, and then slowly contract the abdomen and lower the ribs, exhaling strongly at the same time.
d) Try counting to, say, 4 as you inhale, 2 as you hold, and 6 as you exhale.
e) Continue this round for 10 to 15 times.

Within the posts on this site you will find other breathing exercises which might please you.

Progress?

As being overweight may be a cause of hypertension, pushing back fro the table a bit earlier may be a positive help. A decision to continue to eat everything, but a bit less of it may lead to progress toward lower blood pressure. Walking a bit more than has become customary could lead to similar progress.Coupling a reasonable cut in calories with a calorie-expenditure increase may help too.

Calorie-expenditure usually refers to exercise or physical activity. A moderately paced walk of a mile once a day is considered moderate exercise and is often to lead to longer walks at greater speed. Such exercise is not expected to result in marked increase in appetite.

Those, like me, unwilling to eat less and be more physically active may opt for chemical surgery. For example, taking drugs which are powerful ganglionic blocking agents. Such drugs, in effect, perform chemical surgery.

I have also taken relaxer drugs, like hydralazine, which produce a more gradual and more lasting fall in pressure than gangionic blockers. A combination of hydralazine with hexamethonium seems helpful. Then there wee others like rauwolffia and resepine.

Drugs which might be called usurpers(guanethidine)and also the diuretics didn't seem helpful. Enough diuretics to actuall reduce my pressure, for example, lead to heart discomfort. I am experiencing heart discomfort an pressure right now. I wonder if the aliskiren I've just begun to take is a diuretic!!

Hypertension Notes

~ Hypertension does seem to have some inheritable factors. It may run in families.

~ some professionals suspect that kidney infection or emotional stress may trigger hypertension.

~ Physical activity of some regularity my reduce hypertension. Blood pressure is significantly lower in physically active man then in sedentary men. However those who work more than 40 hours a week tend to have higher blood pressure.

~ It doesn't take much pressure to do one damage. An average pressure of 142/85 may give a 35 year old a death rate 150 percent above the average for his age.

~ Can it be in the water? Some water, especially 'soft water,' has more cadmium then other water. People with hyper tension have been found to have higher concentrations of cadmium in their kidneys than do people with 'normal' blood pressure.

~ Is it a matter of obesity? People above their 'ideal' weight who lose weight, have a fall in blood pressure toward healthy levels.

~ Stress leads to hypertension. Great unmet needs are closely associated with hypertension. Bottled up anger is closely associated with hypertension. Certain tendencies to over conscientiousness may lead to high blood pressure. Resentment raises blood pressure.

~ ~ Low blood pressure is good for us. How low is low enough? How low is too low? The best lowness for an individual surely depends on that individual, but it is great to have some ballpark figures.I would like to have a range of lowness healthy for most people. Can you help me? My guess is that 130/70 and well below that is usually pretty healthy.

Damn!

I take my blood pressure, but still forget the difference between diastolic and systolic pressure. I'm pretty sure that one can be called resting pressure and the other working pressure. the lower of the tow resting and the higher, working.

Pulse pressure is the name given by some to the difference between resting and working pressures. Pulse pressure may be a true and useful measure of the condition of my arteries. the lower it is the more flexible my arteries. the higher it is the stiffer my arteries. I take it that generally flexible arteries are healthy arteries.

I might say that the lower my pulse pressure the healthier I am. Then again when the difference is zero, one is probably dead or very close to being so.

Still is a heuristic, a difference of below 40 might be a useful indication of healthy arteries and a difference above 40 may be an indication of hardening arteries.

At the moment my readings are as follows: 155 systolic
90 diastolic
65 pulse pressure
75 pulse rate
Oh, my God! My readings have really gone bad. They have been this bad and worse in the past.
In recent years they have been more like: 135 systolic
70 diastolic
65 pulse pressure
60 pulse rate

So, even when I thought my readings were good, I had indications of hardening arteries.

Damn!

Terazosin

It may be time for me to seek some help in adjusting my blood pressure medication.
I have been taking fairly small doses of four medications which have been keeping my pressure within healthy ranges for some time with, apparently, no horrific side effects. In the past i have suffered some really ugly side effects and perhaps settling too easily into the use of my present med.
Now I am experiencing some symptoms that may be do to my present medication as I grow into my 70s.

Some of the symptoms which seem to have increased recently are the following, in more or less descending order of annoyance; worst first: fatigue, diminished erectile functioning, nasal congestion, drowsiness.

On of the medications I am taking is 2mg of terazosin a day. I take it for enlarged prostate symptoms and hypertension symptoms. It is a 'Alpha blocker' and I believe it works by blocking action of adrenalin on the smooth muscles of my bladder and blood vessels.

Excuses For Not Walking

Walking improves my health. I have seen walking prove to be good for my body tone and my general sense of well-being. It has brought down my weight and trimmed my waist. A walking and jogging program I carried out not only reduced my blood pressure, but also brought and end to some frightening angina I had bee experiencing!

Still I am now finding effective excuses for not walking: lack of an interesting place to walk nearby; some nerve damage effecting the feeling in my feet unpleasantly; some recurring hip pain; and some knee pain on steep grades.

I really do not know why I am so resistant to taking care of myself that I do not walk. I do swim occasionally and use a stationary bike more often, but not enough.

I have little hope that this confession will help.

I have thought that I could get much need physical activity by more regularly doing productive physical work.

I haven't given up.

As Citizens

Most of us are concerned about our wars. Most agree that our involvement in war causes individuals and peoples to suffer, fear, and die. All of us can see that our wars cost us blood and tax dollars.

Can we come to some agreement about when, where, and under what conditions it is worthwhile for us to begin new killing or not? Could we talk it over? Can we come to a democratic agreement on a national war policy as part of a national foreign policy? We can maintain the necessary dialog? When shall we begin?
