Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired, But Still Posting

Have you checked my history blog recently?
I have a stack of folders each filled with pages of posts. I no longer have the energy or patience to enter them. However, I have just managed to sort history posts.

El Alto, Sucre, and Potosi

El Alto is great. It is located on the plain above La Paz. It is something of a native American nation; important politically and something new in the world. I think that officially El Alto is considered part of La Paz.

I believe that Sucre is elegant and comfortable. I suspect that I could live well there. It is the constitutional capital of Bolivia.

I haven't been to Potosi, but suspect that there are facts about it that you can find interesting. Below, I've sketched a few of them for you:

~ You might say that it was built by European energy and initiative, motivated by European greed.

~ Its high. I'd guess that it is over 13,000 feet above sea level.

~ It's located at the foot of Cero Rico. It has been said that with the silver taken
from that 'hill,' a bridge from Potosi to Madrid could be built. I suspect tat it did fiance much of the latter part of the European Renaissance.

~ In 1650, Potosi may have been the most populate city in the world. In that year I believe it had a population of over 160,000 inhabitants. How many people lived in London that year?

Haiti First

Hispaniola, an island of two republics, Haiti and Dominican Republic, lies about 100 miles from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Haiti has an area of about 11,000 square Miles and a population of about 8,400,000(perhaps some fewer now)which is about 95% black. The Dominican Republic is a it larger and is about 3/4 Creole.

Haitians created the first black led republic in the world. It is the second republic created in the New World. Looking at its history, it seems that from it inception until very recently that most of the leaders of the western world have tried, with much success, to crush it.
Even recently, it seems that the UN supported the US in depriving the people of Haiti of their most popular elected president.

Hey LA!

Have a couple of your civil engineers make a book report on the following work by Jey Jeyapalan, "Advances in Underground Pipeline Design, Construction, and Management."

Eyes of Another

To my face and in writing students have described me as:

special, helpful, deserving of best wishes and thanks, deserving of the best of things and of love, an appreciator of student art, nice, a good story teller, worth inviting back, admiring of student ability and accomplishment, one who listens to problems and helps to get them solved, appreciative of student cleverness, being observed and judged as worthy, one who seems ready to appreciate cleaver creativity, liked by Navajo, worth writing to, interested, loved, worthy of blessing, liked, fun, funny, a pleasure to be with, worthy of having a 'crush on,' worth showing off to -- even in French, effective, worth being known by, worth helping, worthy of happiness, an appreciator of good sentences, too talkative, one who sits on the desk inappropriately, one who rocks in a chair too much, a good motivator, one who accept reminders of his bad behaviors with good grace, a nice guy, attentive to all, worth hitting up for some money, a great teacher for a couple of days, terrific, patient(a frequent and surprising comment), worth thanking, a good teacher, one one can learn from, #1, admirable for having a smile for all, deserving of happiness and fulfilled desires, a teacher, caring, one who's work is appreciated, worth being wished happiness, Worth being wished strength, one who shows another how to discover things for oneself, making learning exiting, one understands and appreciates, cultural differences.

Pressure Stuff

I don't know who can't get high blood pressure.

Hypertension may run in families. It may have inheritable factors.

Kidney infection may lead to high blood pressure. Emotional stress may trigger hypertension.

Physical activity helps. Blood pressure is significantly lower in men who are physically active men then in me who are sedentary. However, those who work more than 40 hours a week tend to have higher blood pressure.

It doesn't take much pressure to do one damage. An average pressure of 142/85 may give a 25 year old a death rate 150% above the average for his age.

"Full Blast"

I have good excuses for the state of my body and for my behavior. Good excuses. I have been ill for nearly two years. Before that I had good excuses too. Further more, as enlightened as I am, I seem to be significantly out of touch with certain motives of mine.

For all of that, I find tat information which seems pertinent to y state sometimes sparks my interest and I am tempted to gather it.

Here is some information which sparked my interest. Its not completely new to many interested in weight loss and fitness; still it may nicely jog your point of view as it did mine.

I am getting this info from n article in Dr. Williams' newsletter, "Alternatives." In part, it might be called interval exercise. The deal with this fat burning activity seems to be, to do about half of a period of exercise at full blast. Williams suggests, for example, if one walks for, say, 5 minutes at a comfortable rate and the walk as fast as you can for 5 minutes, that you will burn 9 times more fat then you would had you continued to walk for 10 minutes at your comfortable rate. He suggests that when riding a bike for exercise, instead of just riding aerobically for an hour, it were better to ride at your normal aerobic rate for 10 minutes and ten to ride full-out for 10 and so alternating complete your hour. The result would be to burn 9 times the fat you would have burned with your regular aerobic exercise!

Similar interval exercise seems also to be better for conditioning the heart and improving overall circulation.

High intensity exercise like weight lifting seems to have an effect similar to full blast intervals. Like full blast intervals, high intensity exercise continues burning fat after the ed of the exercise period for a longer time than many other exercises. They both also seem to raise ones metabolic rate for longer periods of time.
