Tax Dollars at Work

To the extent that we form a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, I am willing to pay plenty of taxes. I am willing to pay more taxes than ever. However a government that makes secrete plans for seemingly immoral ways to manipulate the opinion of the people in favor of various wars does not seem to be of, by, and for my people.

Has a government of, by, and for the people, kept life and death secretes from itself? How can we govern ourselves when we don;'t know what we are doing?

The Government We Deserve. The Government We Have Earned

A government is moving away from being one of, by, and for the people
and toward being one to the people, or in spite of the majority of the people.
Is it not, then, the people who are responsible?

Amendment II

".... ,the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
and all related laws shall be enforced.

The American Dream

was the dream of a republic of all the people.

Prepositions

A just government of the people, by the people, and for the people is a big deal.
A republican may believe that it is so big that it contains all the people.
A democrat may believe that it is best when all the people are welcome all the time.
A republican may believe hat it is best when each is truly represented.
A democrat may believe that it is best when each truly represents himself or herself.

In that just government of, by, and for you and the others you may negotiate how you cooperate with those others.
Ongoing communication is necessary for effective cooperation.

The Gentry

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln understood that the world had been, and mostly still was, made up of the gentry and the people. The gentry ruled and the people worked. The idea of Ab and George was that the people could, and should, rule themselves.

There was some discussion as to how:

The republicans said that rule should be by representatives. Others suggested that such representatives would become a sort of gentry.

The democrats said that rule ought to be directly by the people. Some said that would be rule by rabble.

Republicans won this argument, but have nearly completely lost our republic.

Do not worry. If you are not interested in these arguments, you will be ruled by someone.

You have heard that' rule or governance 'of the people, by the people, and for the people' has perished form the earth. Perhaps it was never here. I suspect that the people of Iceland came close. I have reminded you that 'the people' in the quote means 'not the gentry.' You may find it useful to review the meanings of 'of,' 'by,' and 'for.'

Guess one might say 'by' is the democratic part.
