Science?

Psychology is a science, in important part, to the extent to which its language can clearly communicate empirical findings. A clearly understood classification system is a big help toward that end. Make sure you know what they are talking about. When I don't understand what they are talking about, I suspect that they don't either.

A great value of science is that it facilitates the communication of knowledge.
A classification system need not become dogmatic.
Because a finding is empirical does not mean that it has been subjected to the methods of science.

West Balt

I'll probably post a bit of the history, recent and long past, of Prussia, Poland, and Germany, as well as of Ireland and the US, should I live long enough. Then again I might just begin to post some semi-curious information about the the Prussians, Poles, Germans, Norwegians, and Irish and leave it at that.

Not all that long ago Prussia disappeared, with the help of Russia and others, into the lands of Poland and Germany. "Prussia" may sound like Russia, but a Prussian is not a Russian, a German or a Pole. Prussians have rarely like Russians, nor the Russians, Prussians.
Some have said that Prussians are really a kind of German. Some, including some Germans, say that the German state began in Prussia, but It bares repeating, a Prussian is not a German.

In very recent years Prussians have begun to show a renewed spirit of unity where once even existence may have been doubted.
Once Prussians traded and fought in dignity with Romans, vikings and Swedes. Later for a time, they found it difficult to maintain their independence in the face of German, Polish, Lithuanian, and Russian onslaughts. At times they found support from Lithuanians and learned from Poles and Germans. Of Course Germans, Poles, and Lithuanians learned from the Prussians. Prussians learned little love for Russians, but very likely share some Slavic cousins with them.

If you can find north-west Europe on your map, you can probably find the Baltic Sea. The people on the eastern shore of that sea were long called West Balts. Prussians came from these people and their lands are still along that same shore.
The Prussian language, like other languages, has changed over time. Languages disappear and Prussian has come very close to doing so. The Old Baltic language of the Prussians is one of the oldest in Europe.

Patterns of Sound, Spelling, and Meaning

A way to begin to find patterns is by dividing them into two groups; the ss group and the zz group. The ss group could be made up of words ending in an 's' sound as in: tactics, hiss, parts, success. The zz group could be made up of words ending in a 'z' sound as in the words: buzz, buzzes, his, words.

Can you hear the difference?

Have you found any patterns yet?
Here is a pattern I found that relates to spelling and pronunciation:
(likes, looks, lakes, walks, woks, wakes) The words in parentheses all end in the ss sound, don't they. Can you find a word that ends i the ss sound that doesn't have the 'k' sound as it's penultimate sound. We may not only be finding a pattern but also a law. We might start by saying that when a word ends in an s preceded by a k the s sounds ss.
What can you add to the list? Find another pattern or rule.

Who is interested in spelling and pronunciation?
How interested are they?
Have you noticed that English speakers like the final 'ss' sound when it is preceded by a 't' sound?
For example: parts, profits, budgets, rights, acts, limits, visits, giants, Celts.

I'm failing to start conversations here. I've made about 500 attempts without one success. I'm not ready to give up completely, but I am ready to give up this attempt to discuss English pronunciation.

Not All Mayan

The peoples of the Lacandon Jungle of the Yucatan peninsula have long been various.
They are not all Maya. Some are Caribes or Hach Winik.
We are not sure of much. For example, the source of the name Lacandon may or may not be 'Lacam-tun,' a name given to the island on the present Lake Miramar, used as a retreat by the Chol people into the 16th century.

Clear, solid information is still rather scarce, Even though it is now a fairly active area of study. More face to fact talk to present day Maya by experts with knowledge of Maya culture, history, and language is needed. More firsthand investigation of colonial archives is also needed. A lot of interpretation of more easily available information is also needed. You can participate. Your interpretations may provide valuable insights and understandings.

In 1530 captain Alonso Davila discovered the island mentioned above. It was described then as being in the center of a large lake and containing a village of rich, warlike Indians. The Spanish sacked it in 1559 and in 1586 the Indians themselves destroyed it completely.
Those warlike Indians were Caribes who had moved down the Orinoco to the Caribbean in excellent canoes centuries before the Spanish conquest. They moved on into the Caribbean islands probably as far north as Cuba. They dominated and intermarried with the Arawak natives they found occupying the islands.
The Caribes were probably more supported by their seamanship and war abilities than by other areas of their culture. They were the first to meet Columbus in the New World. Although the Spaniards war abilities were more advanced than those of the Craribes they were not able to enslave them. They did kill many and in certain cases virtually eliminated them form some islands. Still, it is not hard to find their decedents on islands such as Trinidad, Tobago, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Dominica as well as at mainland sites.

So, we may note that certain people and proper names found in the lad of the Maya are not all Mayan.

Further consideration of the how of this trip may be called for as well as for the why of it.
How includes conditions, right? I have already written a bit about conditions. For example: flights are to be of less than 10 hours; bus trips less than 5; there must be plenty of sleep and rest. Now I add some conditions: good companionship; good conversation; play in water, travel on water.
It's a lot for me to keep in mind. I hope you find some use for this discussion.

There are others, but these come directly to mind.

Which of the items above seem most specific to a particular trip or destination? Most of them could be accomplished on any trip. Many can be done at home. The items most useful in selecting a destination are the destination specific. It's beginning to seem easy and simple. Those most destination specific are:

1. travel on water in sight of shore

2. enjoy a hot mineral water spa

3. be where the air is most pure

So, an ideal destination would include one or more of the three enumerated. There are hot water health spas not far from the Danube. I wonder it there is any very clean air along its length.

It seems I do have reasons to travel and some idea of what constitutes an attractive destination.
