We and Us

Good governance provides well for freedom, justice, and order. As we as individuals in our society improve the quality of information we are getting about the realities of our society and governance, so we improve our society and our governance. However, the less we discuss the nature of freedom, justice, and order among us, the less we form a functioning we, body politic, or society. If we truly want freedom, justice, and order among us, we must maintain a dialogue on freedom, justice and order among us.

Adult Education

Important parts of our learning often proceed as follows:
From awareness,
to practice,
to mastery;
in an ongoing recycling process.
We never complete any of those three areas of learning.

The areas on which we train our awareness may well be: body, emotion, thought, and, perhaps, 'knowing.'

Part of our practice may best include meditation and contemplation.

As most of us will continue to relate to others in a society, it will help to consider the nature of justice, ethics, morality as part of our understanding.

After some growth and maturity we may want to reconsider the nature of reality.

What do we get?
Well, maybe .....
The the satisfaction of being in the process.
Raised consciousness.
A set of skills.
the pleasure of approaching mastery.
Self-knowledge.
An improved way of being in the world.
A way of educating yourself.
A life of greater meaning.
And, you get growth of understanding.

Trust

How do we see our unity?
What is the nature of the justice we want to establish among us?
Are we still interested in establishing it?
What are we willing to do about our general welfare?
Of what does that welfare consist?
How interested are we in seeing that our laws are carried out?
Are they our laws?

Just

Try a seed contemplation with justice as your object.

Is there a god in your Psyche? Imagine him (her, it) gladdened by by a just deed of yours. See that god in you dance for joy at the realization of that deed.

Remember, your way is beautiful, pleasant, joyful, and familiar.

The all of reality is one, Look and see.

See that you can trust the way of things and your own experience.

You are awake and alive, Smile.

See that there is a real 'law' and see that it is just.

In Iraq

It is remembered that lightning can cover the land like a cloth.

In its democracy of 5000 years ago, power rested in a general assembly of all the voters. In their cities of the time in the southern reaches of the Fertile Crescent Mesopotamian art and literature were well developed.

There, listening and hearing was the mark of intelligence. Political discussion was called 'asking one another.' To have ones ears wide open was to hear the wisdom of God.

People knew that existence was movement and configuration, activity and godly dance.

Purity was valued.

People there understood that man could be godly enough to enter into the identity of the great cosmic forces of the universe, and sway them by action. Men, then knew that their entering and action was best done with cooperation, respect, reverence, humility, and their greatest wisdom.

Law was respected and justice valued.

Perhaps 2000 years later Greeks began to learn some of the same things.

About 1500 years after the Greeks we began to know some of those things.

It Makes Ya Wonder

What causes a person to say, "Give me liberty or give me death?"
What causes a person to decide to die for honor?
What causes a person to chance death in battle?
What cause a person to decide to destroy life and property?
What causes a person to decide to give up their life to destroy another life?
What causes a person to be ready, willing, and able to die in a foreign land?
What causes a person to sacrifice himself?
What would you die for?
For what might you sacrifice all?
What is worth your supreme sacrifice?
How much dishonor, injustice, sacrilege, and deprivation are you will to allow your loved ones to suffer?
What arouses your curiosity?
How do you satisfy your curiosity?
